What is Hair Transplantation?

Hair transplantation is a therapy that involves transferring hair follicles from one region of the body (typically the scalp) to the affected areas in order to cover baldness. Types of hair transplants and their procedures

FUT Hair Transplant: FUT, which stands for Follicular Unit Transplant, is a technique for hair transplant. In this procedure, a strip is removed from the back of the head and sutured, leaving a permanent scar that is concealed by the surrounding hairs. Grafts are removed from the cut skin, which includes a variety of grafts (single hairs, doubles, triples, and fours). They are then placed on the bald area.

FUE Hair Transplant is one of the most popular hair transplant techniques giving a very natural look without any visible scar.

FUE, or Follicular Unit Extraction, is the most often used hair transplant technique. There is no scarring, the grafts are removed one by one, and they are implanted using advanced technologies with the greatest safety (graft health). FUE hair transplant is performed since there is no need for a cut and suture. FUE hair transplantation is a simple process.

All hair transplant techniques require shaving of the scalp, but there is a non-shave FUE hair transplant technique that does not require shaving of the scalp. This is one of the cutting-edge hair transplant procedures.

Individual follicular units containing 1 to 4 hair are removed under local anaesthetic with Follicular Unit Extraction, or FUE harvesting; this micro removal typically involves tiny punches ranging from 0.6mm to 1.0mm in diameter. The surgeon next punctures the locations for receiving the grafts with extremely small micro blades or fine needles, inserting them in a predetermined density and pattern and angling the wounds in a consistent method to promote a realistic hair pattern.

FUE can be done in a single session or in several short sessions. The surgery can take anywhere from a few hours to extract 200 grafts for a scar correction to two days to harvest 2,500 to 3,000 grafts in a single session. A fox test is used to select candidates for FUE.

FUE can produce highly natural-looking outcomes: FUE harvesting has the advantage of strip harvesting in that it does not require significant regions of scalp tissue to be harvested, resulting in no linear incision on the back of the head and no linear scar. Because individual follicles are removed, only small, punctate scars are left, which are nearly unnoticeable, and post-surgical pain and discomfort are reduced. Micro Grafting FUE recovery takes fewer than 7 days because no sutures removal is required.

What is Hair Graft?

Graft is the strip or follicular unit that is transplanted from the donor site (the back of your head) to the recipient site (bald area of your scalp). There is more than one type of hair graft although the follicular unit is the most popular. Micrografts and minigrafts are two further types of grafts.

A donor strip is a piece of skin that includes a large number of hair follicles. The follicles are then dissected under a microscope after being extracted from the donor site. These follicles are subsequently implanted into the scalp’s recipient area.

How many grafts are required for FUE Hair Transplant?

The number of grafts required for a hair transplant is determined by the thickness of the patient’s existing hair. The donor hair’s quality will also influence the total number required for a favourable outcome. Graft number varies between 1000 and 5000 grafts for the average hair transplant.

Do's and Don'ts Before Hair Transplantation

  1. Avoid drinking coffee or tea two days before a hair transplant.
  2. Don’t consume spicy or oily foods for two days before your hair transplant.
  3. Avoid smoking and drinking for a week before getting a hair transplant.
  4. Before the procedure, take any medications recommended by your doctor.
  5. Wash your scalp every day with the recommended shampoo.

Do's and Don'ts After Hair Transplantation

  1. Avoid exposure to dust and sunlight for at least one week, or as directed by the surgeon.
  2. Always wear a surgical cap while going out.
  3. Do not wear a helmet for a month after having your hair transplanted.
  4. Do not smoke or consume alcohol for 15 days after the hair transplantation surgery.
  5. Do not touch the recipient area till the day of washing it.
  6. Start daily washing of the donor area with drinking water on the very next day of the hair transplant.
  7. After 7 days, wash the recipient region on a regular basis.
  8. Swimming and gym exercises should be avoided for at least two months after hair transplantation.
  9. Use the surgeon’s recommended medicines on a regular basis. Use the doctor-recommended shampoo as well.
  10. Follow the doctor’s diet advice for healthy hair development.
